Feeding New York for Over 40 Years

No food wasted.
No New Yorker hungry.

City Harvest rescues over 200 million pounds of food a year and delivers it to soup kitchens, food pantries, and community programs across all five boroughs — making fresh, nutritious food something every New Yorker can count on.

Nathel & Nathel has been part of that mission for years — including in the days that mattered most.

City Harvest has been a lifeline for New Yorkers facing food insecurity since 1982. As the first food rescue organization in the U.S., they started small — a few volunteers, a big idea, and a city in need. Today, they rescue over 200 million pounds of food each year, delivering it to soup kitchens, food pantries, and local organizations across the five boroughs. Their work touches every corner of the city and every kind of neighborhood, making sure that good food doesn't go to waste.

City Harvest is more than a food rescue organization — it's a trusted presence in communities across New York City. With Mobile Markets that bring fresh produce straight into food-insecure neighborhoods, and nutrition programs that teach families how to cook healthy meals on a budget, they're helping build lasting change. For them, it's not just about getting food to people — it's about making sure that nutritious food is something every New Yorker can count on.

City Harvest in action

When the city needed it most.

Long before this partnership had a name, it had a moment. In the immediate aftermath of September 11, 2001, as New York City was reeling, Nathel & Nathel worked alongside City Harvest to help feed first responders, volunteers, and displaced New Yorkers in need. It was the kind of response that didn't require a plan — just a willingness to show up when it mattered most. City Harvest recognized that commitment with a formal acknowledgment, and it remains one of the moments the Nathel family is most proud of.

"Nathel & Nathel is the kind of partner every nonprofit dreams of — supportive, consistent, and genuinely invested in our mission. The Nathel family has been a leading donor to City Harvest for several years and we are immensely thankful for their support."

City Harvest's work depends on strong relationships — and we're proud to be one of them. For years, we've worked together to get the right food to the right places, quickly and consistently. It's a partnership built on a shared mission: no New Yorker has to go hungry. Good food can change lives, and the Nathel & Nathel team is grateful to help City Harvest turn surplus into sustenance for thousands across the city.
